The Table

latest news (from weei): chi sox just won and have nothing to play for this weekend. if chi and cleveland both end up wiht 96 wins, chisox still win the division because they ONLY play the one game playoff in the event that only ONE of them can make the postseason. in this case, that's not true, since assuming both win 96 games, as it's impossible for BOTH the red sox and yankees to win 96 games now (after today)... so instead of the one game playoff, they look at head to head record, in which case chisox win, having won 11 of 16 against the cleveland indians.

this does not bode well for the sox, who actually may have to get in by the wildcard somehow... and needed the chisox to beat up on the indians this weekend. brace yourself for more bad news to come. and damn it's raining hard outside.

cowboy up? no, cowboy stfu. i'm not sure why olerud isnt in everyday now, especially when we need his bat and defense the most. secondly, i'm not buying this pathetic "i didnt have my stuff today" argument that pitchers are just so fond of using. if you dont have your stuff, then get the fuck off this team. you have no business of playing big league ball if you cant ensure that you'll have SOME stuff when you pitch. you have 4-5 days to prepare. so prepare. giving up 7 runs in 3 innings is pathetic. lets try this. lets try giving up just 6 runs in 3 innings. and from that game, we'll move down to 5 runs in 3 innings in the next start. maybe by the time arroyo and the rest of this pathetic pitching staff (not you wakefield) can get their act together, we can whittle that down to 1 run in 3 innings. then we'll move to 7 runs in 4 innings, 7 runs in 5 innings, etc, etc, and work our way down. over and over. until this pitching staff gets the idea that giving up that many runs is pathetic. arroyo, you're embarrassing yourself. stop sucking ass. ever want to see a clinic on what not to do? tune in to the red sox when they play the behemoth blue jays.

predictions time.
i suck at predictions- therefore, i'm great at them. George Costanza has passed the torch to me. for instance...

...this weekend. i dont see good things. why? because originally I saw good things... up until our starting pitching collapsed after our bullpen collapsed. which is a omen for lots of bad things to come. tonight's game is gigantic...ally bad. i see a cleveland win, yankee win, and a red sox loss. i originally expected the sox to AT WORST, take 3 from the jays in this series. i thought the home field advantage would have kicked in, and our bats would have gotten hot. and our pitching would have been the stop gap. well, i should have known better... the jays will take 3 from this series. you think i'm kidding. but i'm not. and it pisses me off. i have no control over this power of mine. clement is a LOCK for a loss. and not just a loss, but an embarrassing beat the shit out of you type of loss. short of a titanic blue jay meltdown that is, which i do not foresee... as they're to the tune of 11-5 against us this season. 6 does not a complete number make, but 12 certainly is. the Bible told me so. 12-5 > 11-6. sorry for the bad news. where is all this coming from? here's my logic... it's not hard to understand. take the best case scenario: cleveland loses, yankees lose, red sox win. now take the opposite.

(you think i'm bluffing, but i'm not. i went 9-5 against the spread this past NFL weekend that was mired with several "underdog" upsets. using this method. after two weeks of pure futility and scoring 40 of 136 points in week 1 and 49 of 136 points in week 2, and in second to last place at the end of it, i launched to third place overall after scoring 77 of 105 possible points in week 3. i'm riding this power of mine to the top. the only team i can get right by instinct is New England.) it's time to make it work for the red sox now.

therefore, by the weekend, red sox will be down 2 games, and will be forced to sweep the yankees. did i originally foresee the red sox sweeping the yankees? no. so maybe they will. it's tough to call right now, with the aces aaron small and chacon slated to start against us. i'll keep you posted.

bottom line- i dont want to see the one game playoff game have to get played. the way our team is in shambles right now, lets just make the postseason straight up. the playoff game would be a recipe for disaster, as it'd be a tossup as to who starts that game. and it wont be wake. who would you want? um... maybe papelbon if i really had my choice. lets say we even win that game by some miracle- our pitchign WOULD BE DECIMATED. there is no upside to playing that game in new york whatsoever. it is a true lose-lose situation.

and for today's PTI segment, we're playing over/under. for tonight's game. with our second anti ace, matthew "ace of the bench" clement. (I really hope I'm wrong about this, but it always seems I'm right about all the bad stuff...)

event:over-under/paul's take
-innings before taken out: 2.1/under, 2.0 innings
-runs given up: 6/over, 7
-pitch count: 95/under, 92
-walks: 6/push
-hits: 8/under, 6
-batters hit by pitch: 3/under, 2
-wild pitches: 2/under, 1
-times kevin millar brings nothing to the table: 10/over x*
* there is no measure to this number, as it transcends all known mathematical methods of quantification

as for ortiz bunting... hahaha. good idea. cause this team's been so good hitting with RISP, that we need to ensure we have more runners on base, for manny. yeah, i guess. "we need runners, not runs!" stfu. or we could just take what we can get with ortiz swinging away. as normal. at that point, any run is better than an extra runner on base. here's a nice phrase for you to use. "a bird in the hand is better than two in the bush." i'm offended by all these stupid cliches. these people calling into weei are retards. yeah, lets have our only productive bat bunt. "productive" in this case, is being used quite liberally, as the entire team is slumping, except for E6. surprise.

-for the idiot pundits, does this SOUND like there's a mulligan in effect over the Red Sox? stfu. you especially TED NATION.

-i am sick of millar. and i was sick of him before. lefty, righty, i dont care. millar brings nothing to the table. olerud starts tonight. if you want a CHANCE to win this game that clement is going to throw away, you better freaking NOT start millar. olerud. get it right. word is, millar is 2-6 against scott downs, with 1 HR. olerud has never faced him. hmm, what would francoma do? yeah, you guessed it. millar's gonna be in tonight. i wonder what the outcome of this will be...

-word is that the red sox just picked up mike stanton. oh man. more double agents. maybe i should suit up too.

something to wonder: what would be the downside to bringing up jon lester? he's a lefty. he's a good prospect. i can think of a few reasons why not, but given that we have other prospects up here, and the next best option after myers is no one, i mean mike stanton, why wouldnt you bring up lester? i dunno what the eligibility rules are for the postseason roster, but seeing that they picked up stanton, i'm assuming it's for the postseason. if not, i guess it'll be for them to pitch him against the... yankees? um... what's wrong with this picture? oh, the double agent issue again. great.

link about the pickup for mike stanton...

turns out that stanton is not eligible for the postseason, so he's gonna be used against the yankees. in which case, that slightly negates my thoughts about bringing up lester for the postseason. but he's had no big league experience, and if we were to do it, i think it'd be too late. either way, here's his scouting report...

scouting report on jon lester:
Very athletic lefty. 2-seam and 4-seam fastballs sit in the low 90's, top out in the mid-90s, and have good movement. Lester also utilizes an above-average change-up, an 11-to-5 curveball which sits in the low 70s, and in 2005 worked on developing a cutter. Easy delivery motion with good explosion, similar to Andy Pettitte. Power strikeout pitcher, uses his fastball and occasionally his curve as his out pitch. While Lester typically has top notch control, occasionally he will have games where his control of certain pitchers is off. Very hard worker, prepares will for each game. Has also been compared to Mark Mulder. Great pickoff move.

it's great watching the jets pick up testaverde and kingsbury. that's just awesome. TY LAW, WELCOME HOME!

rohan davey signed with the cardinals was it? haha. better watch it warner. this guy has arm like vick. and throws as well as him too. and a windup that rivals major league pitchers. rohan davey literally goes into a pitcher's stretch before he releases the football. it's hilarious.

weei helped me realize one of the reasons i've been annoyed recently. these damn retarded bruins commercials. the mottos- "[insert cliche adjective], it's called Bruins"(WTF?!) are bad enough, but when coupled with that HORRIBLE music, i cant think of a worse combination. i saw the new one yesterday where they had this "Warrior" on this bench and this chick comes from behind him, strokes him happy, puts on his pads - "it's called Bruins." How did they con cam neely to do even one of these commercials? please. i'm glad NHL is back, but they need to bring something to the freaking table. like D&C said this morning, maybe it should have been something to the tune of "sorry, we screwed up last year, it's called Bruins." "we really suck ass, it's called Bruins."

speaking of bringing something to the table, Lost s02ep02 didnt either. which was disappointing as hell. newest update- it seems as if desmond is waiting to be rescued by someone, from something... i guess the illness. dont ask, cause that's the only thing we found out. everythign else was just rehash. the preview for next week looks intriguing, but i'm going to reserve judgment. the flashbacks might have been the worst i'd seen in a long time. this episode should have been integrated and the scenes should have been shown concurrently last week, into a 2 hour episode.

questions/thoughts, quite limited, as nothing was really new yesterday...
- are these new others shown in teh preview the same ones as the guys who took walt?
- if not, are they another band of "others" on the island?
- i'm assuming michael and sawyer are on the other side of the island now, seeing that ann lucia is there...
- how did jin get back to the island so much faster than michael and sawyer?
- what did one snowman say to the other snowman?
- who the hell is desmond expecting?
- that big black dude looked fierce
