Pats win and sobering news (ep)
Thrilling 4th quarter on Sunday. The Dwight thing was amazing, but can someone tell me why he cut back towards the two tacklers rather than down the sideline? In any case, the Miami Herald piles on the Patriots bandwagon and reveals some delusional dolphin thoughts:
"The difference between these teams is that one has a champion at quarterback and the other has Gus Frerotte. The difference between these teams is that one makes the play that kills you while the other drops it. The difference between these teams is that one can win enormous games even while unhealthy and the other one loses when healthy as can be."
"You know who was blocking for Brady on a limping O-line Sunday? Rookies at left tackle and left guard. Undrafted players at right tackle and right guard. The highest draft pick among them was the fifth-rounder at center. And Miami had all of two sacks for 1 yard."
"On Sunday, the Patriots also unleashed the super-secret-never-before-seen Heath Evans Offense. And all he did Sunday was gain more yards (84) than Ronnie Brown and Ricky Williams combined (77)."
"Chambers, meanwhile, lamented the sun getting in his eyes and the officiating being so bad as to not call pass-interference penalties. 'The same amount of sun was in my face as his,'' Hobbs said. ``I am sure he is saying there was a lot of sun, but there are all kinds of elements on the field and you can't make any excuses.'"
"Afterward Saban said he was 'proud' of the way his team fought in the game and added, 'I can't sit here and say that our players aren't as good as their players.'"
From the Sunday Herald:
PATRIOTS (4-4) AT DOLPHINS (3-5)
• When: 1 p.m. Sunday • TV: Chs. 4, 12
• Line: NE by 3 • Cote: MIA 24-21
The mystique has vanished from New England, mainly because -- for all of Bill Belichick's genius at stopping the other team -- the defending champs aren't defending anybody very well. Ronnie Brown and Ricky Williams should have dual success. And if Billy-B plots to stop them, then Gus Frerotte will have an ample shot to justify Nick Saban's generous faith in him. Miami beat the Pats here last December, and NE isn't nearly as good now, while the Dolphs are better. An upset? Yeah. But not a huge one. In a duel of coaches who go way back, on this afternoon at least, protégé beats mentor.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------In more sobering news, Eddie Guerrero has died. Eddie was a good performer for a long time. He made his mark in WCW with a style which was greatly suited for the new age WWE. He was one of those guys who had his prime too early, before the gilded age of today's complex soap operas. Still, he managed to make a mark with his stereotypical Mexican sleaze image. His song with cousin Chavo was brilliant - "We Lie, We Cheat, We Steal". And Eddie was ALWAYS a hardworking performer in the ring. RIP Eddie.
Eddie Guerrero now joins alot of other famous WWE/WWF stars who died too young:
Mr. Perfect Curt Henning (died in sleep)
Ravishing Rick Rude (heart attack)
Brian Pillman (heart attack)
Owen Hart (shock trauma from rafters fall)
Miss Elizabeth (drug overdose)
Dino Bravo (gunned down in organized crime hit)
Road Warrior Hawk (heart attack)
The British Bulldog Davey Boy Smith (heart attack)
Yokozuna (heart attack)
