Red Sox in the playoffs
ep
Despite all of the injuries, I would be very surprised to see the Sox not win the AL East. They clearly have the most well-rounded team of the three main contenders. As far as their playoff chances go, I do not subscribe to the thought that they can't win with their lack of dominant starters at the top. None of their starters exactly last year played to expectations. Schilling was awful his first game in NY. Pedro was mediocre. Lowe was amazingly lights out. That level of unsteadiness could be manageable in the AL playoffs. Just look at the contenders - Anaheim has no starters that scare you at all. Chicago - Garland is their guy but behind him theres no dominating guy. Minnesota - Santana and a bunch of ok guys. Baltimore - Bruce Chen anyone? Oakland probably scares you the most with Harden and Zito, but neither is reliable and its no guarantee they make it. As long as the sox don't run into
the 2001 Diamondbacks (RJ and Schill) or this years Astros (Clemens, Pettite, Oswalt), then Sox fans should have total confidence that they will have as good a shot as anyone else regardless of the lack of frontline aces.
