Growing my mullet

I know, NASCAR is not even a sport. But, I can't help but follow this Nextel Chase to the Cup. Now that there are only 12 or so drivers that actually matter - and most of these are the big names like Dale Jr., Jeff Gordon, Jimmie Johnson, etc. - each of these last few races have been hugely dramatic in getting into the race.

My boy Dale Jr. gained about 20 spots in 20 laps this weekend at California Speedway and took over 2nd place on the final lap. Kasey Kahne gave himself a chance and won the race when the cinderella story leader Reed Sorensen ran out of gas with 2 laps to go. Kahne has won 5 races this year (most on the tour), yet he must overtake someone in the last race of the year to make the "playoffs".

Kahne took the checkers on Sunday.
Kahne may have won more races this year

But Jr has a nightclub w/ stripper poles in his basement.

The spectacle of NASCAR racing has always been there. But there was always something lacking competitively. Now with the Chase to the Cup and the playoff system, NASCAR is actually starting to resemble an organized sport. Even if you're like me and don't know or care about engine adjustments, you can't help but be drawn in by the excitement and strategy of NASCAR. Just use a little patience and get a few favorite drivers/teams. You'll agree that this is good stuff.
